The Mobile Educator organizes the  Professional Pathways for Amsterdam Statushouders program for newcomers with extensive experience as a teacher of English or French.

There is a shortage of teachers in the Netherlands, including teachers of English and French. Our program is an extensive, free of charge training course for  statushouders with an educational background in English or French. The program is specifically designed to deliver teachers for secondary vocational education (MBO) in the Netherlands[1] .

Programme

During the first two months of this professional development training course, you  are introduced to the Dutch educational system and culture, and get acquainted with modern educational methods, like active learning and the use of ICT in education. Special attention is paid to the role of the teacher in Dutch education and to the practice of vocational education in the Netherlands. The principal language of instruction during the training is Dutch.

After the two months training program you follow an internship (‘stage’) at a ROC[2] in Amsterdam. A Dutch teacher of English or French at the school is your mentor.

A successful internship will support you in getting a starting position as a teacher of English or French at an ROC from January 2018 onwards, in combination with an additional educational training at the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. This training  will provide you with a ‘pedagogisch-didactische aantekening’, the first step towards a possible full Dutch teacher qualification.
